The Nursing degree integrates Liberal Arts and Nursing Education,
combining the general education requirements with the Nursing
curriculum. Class size facilitates personal interaction with our
faculty and allows students the opportunity to develop the
relationship with teachers necessary for success.
A state of the art, innovative nursing-resource center lab includes
computer-assisted learning, interactive videos and other methods to
simulate realistic nursing experiences.
The nursing curriculum prepares students to provide promotive,
preventive, curative and rehabilitative professional nursing care to
individuals of all ages, to families, and to the community. The
curriculum meets the needs of beginning students and of students
holding RN and LPN licensure.
Flexible Scheduling
The program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis
through a traditional day program
or through the University's
Weekend and Evening
College program. Clinical activities and classes encompass day,
evening and weekend times.
RN-BSN Completion Program
Maryville University recognizes prior nursing education and awards
40 nursing credits
by validation of a nursing RN license.
Due to the nature of its audience, the curriculum for the
Nursing-BSN completion major offered in
Maryville's
Weekend and Evening College format varies slightly from the
traditional undergraduate curriculum. The WEC general
education requirements retain the same focus and content but have
different course restrictions and credit hours as affected by the
3/4 credit hour variances. Specific WEC major or minor requirements
can be found in any WEC office.
Special Challenge Courses for LPN
The LPN student may challenge NURS 204, 205, and 206 for a total of
5 credits. For each course, the student must register to
challenge the course and submit payment of the required fee ($25 per
credit hour). Criteria for challenging the courses are
available for the Nursing program office.
Graduate Program
The Maryville
University Nursing program offers a 36-45 credit hour program
leading to the
Master of Science in Nursing.
The graduate program offers four emphasis areas: Adult Nurse
Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Geriatric Nurse
Practitioner and Nursing Education. The curriculum is designed to
provide maximum flexibility for full-time or part-time study with
classes in the evening format.

Students are accepted for fall semester each year. Application
materials are available from the Admissions Office. RN students are
accepted each term; procedure for admission is available from the
Nursing Office. Transfer students may apply at any time; admission
is dependent upon compliance with admission requirements and
available space in the courses needed by the student.
Courses in the Nursing program are measured in credit hours.
Nursing courses use class, lab/modules and clinical experience in
meeting credit hour allocation. The ratio of credit hour to clock
hour (minutes) per week of the semester is:
| credit
hour: class clock hour |
1:50 minutes |
| credit
hour: lab/module clock hour |
1:180 minutes |
| credit
hour: clinical clock hour |
1:240 minutes |
To complete the program, students must
complete successfully all courses required for the major, University
course requirements, and electives to meet the graduation
requirement of 128 semester hours.
Students will be required to complete standardized tests throughout
the nursing curriculum and to achieve acceptable scores on such
examinations. Students are required to maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout
the program. In the last semester of the nursing curriculum,
students will be required to attain a satisfactory score on a
comprehensive exam in order to obtain approval to take the licensure
examination. In compliance with the Missouri Nurse Practice Act,
(Chapter 335 of the Missouri Statutes, section 335.066), nursing
program applicants should be aware that the Missouri State Board of
Nursing may refuse to issue a license for specific reasons related
to moral turpitude, intemperate use of alcohol or drugs, or
conviction of a crime.
